School supplies part deux

Went to Wal Mart to pick up a few things. Had Grandma P and the princess along for the shopping adventure; always lots of fun.

My shopping list 1 hair brush,1 pkg foam rollers,1 bottle de-tangler,1 pkg socks and a jug o' milk. More things magically appeared in the cart before the end of the trip. 1 back pack,1pr sneakers,2 pr glittery leggings, bd gift for nekoampydrew(I know you read this dude, don't worry the leggings are not your gift) ;-)

The princess doesn't forget anything, ever. As we were leaving the store she says this is where I yakked. That was a long time ago. I'm lucky I can remember what I had for breakfast, but I forgot the socks. Looks like another trip is in order.

14 days...you thought I forgot

Two weeks and school begins again. The princess took today off,she said she's "ill" That is not a term that use. Don't know where she got that from. We spent the evening reading some picture books. She gave me "Not Norman A Goldfish Story". Her reasoning was to remind me she still wants a pet. Frankly,I'm not ready for that and neither is she. Remember Sluggo? She can go have supervised visits with grandma's betta,Fish.

Altatoids & the skate date

The princess went to the skating rink to skate with a long time friend this afternoon. She asked if they could have some peppermint altatoids(as she calls them) aka Altoids's(the small square ones);she's had them before and knows how strong they are, apparently he didn't. Poor kid looked as if she had given him jalapenos. He recovered quickly, children are wonderfully resilient, aren't they? She suggested they try the cinnamon ones next time; (I wont even try those.) The kids had good time skating in spite of the altatoid incident.

"Acting Out" at the library

Fabulous Friday. At the library as the princess is attending a program given by Lee Knight/Books Alive. I will attempt to catch up on some work while I'm here.

Now on to the show...

The children spent 1.5 hrs rehearsing a show for the parents to watch. Simply fantastic. The presentation was based on two Laura Numeroff stories "If you give a Moose a Muffin" and "If you give a Pig a Pancake." There was singing, dancing and improvisation. The children also built the scenery.

We've attended many of Ms. Knight's programs and never been disappointed.Check out Ms. Knight's website www.Lee-Knight.com for information on upcoming events.

Crabby Patty

Made a crab cake recipe I found on a box of Kellogg's Corn Flake Crumbs. The princess took a bite and told me she liked the one's from my friend's fish market better. I responded by telling her to pack a bag so she could go live there LOL; stab me in the heart. I thought they were good. Oh well.

21 days and counting

You've all been wondering what we've been up to. Chilling out for a few days. Went to the diner with some friends this afternoon. Ordered a black cherry soda/vanilla ice cream soda. Was given a chocolate soda/vanilla ice cream soda. At least the ice cream was right. Don't care much for chocolate soda. I could have sent it back but I don't believe in messing with the people that are preparing my food. Waitress just got a smaller tip for stupidity.

The princess spent yesterday with MIL.When they returned from their outing MIL shared this. While out shopping the princess found some pieces from a store decoration in the entrance. In the check out line, a customer suggested that she had removed the decoration from the entrance area. She looked him straight in the eye and told him he was spreading rumors and she didn't like it. His jaw dropped in astonishment by her response. He asked MIL how the princess is. She replied 5. His tween aged son just looked at him with embarrassment and sighed. Sorry I missed that moment.

Stop back tomorrow to hear all about the dentist and another trip to the movies

Read with a kid today

Taking a few moments from all the summer fun to post about something of importance to me,reading. As many of you are aware, I spent several years teaching in a rural Title 1 school (leaving when the princess was born).

Please visit First Book, a not for profit that provides children access to books. There is link on the side bar that will take you to their page. Got to go and read with the princess.

28 Days until school starts

The public library hosted the annual celebration for the children who completed their summer reading club goals. Activities included three inflatables;the fourth having an untimely deflation soon after the event began. There was one inflatable where the children wore a harness connected to a bungee and ran as far as they could before being pulled back. Too horizontal,LOL; I didn't understand the concept myself. The kids however couldn't get enough of it. Other activities included a DJ,magician and games.

Later on I called the captain to ask where some small hand tools might be found in his guy stash. He told me he got a flat tire on his bike going to work and asked me what I planned for dinner and would I bring him a plate. So off we went to deliver him a burger at work. I realized after getting in the car my shirt was inside out. Rather than going back in to fix it, I kept going. Ever have one of those moments where you go out and hope you don't run in to any one you might know? Well the captain noticed my wardrobe malfunction and quickly provided me a place to make the necessary adjustments. Good thing I had on underwear. As I ran into a coworkers of his who is also the mother of one of the princess' classmates.

Since I was feeling totally uncomfortable at this point I decided to make a stop at the grocery store where everyone know us by name. While we're there we run into another parent we know. I'm so happy to be home and in more comfortable clothing, eating some pop ems and drinking a glass of milk.

Went to the movies...don't tell the princess

Mom took me to the movies this aftenoon. We saw Julie & Julia, very funny. I will not spoil it for those of you who've not yet seen it. Streep,Tucci & Adams are just teriffic. Walk,no run to the theater, but not on an empty stomach.

I can't remember the last time I went to the movies with my mom, without an entourage of children.

Free Corn Muffins

Made a batch of corn muffins with the princess this morning. She wanted to leave them on the door steps of some of our neighbors. She has a book with a similar story. Several of the families we are friendly with are away so it wasn't a good time to leave anything.

She decided to take some to the local park to share with children she might meet. She placed four muffins in her bike basket and rode around announcing free muffins. She even had a few takers!

The dentist, the hair cutter & the ready mop

My day started out on a mission to find an elusive product. Six stores later I found what I am now calling the holy grail of home care products. Cleaning pads for a Clorox Ready Mop. I discovered an open box of the product in a grocery store. I purchased it and didn't really care if one or two were missing. I had visited two big box home improvements stores, a pharmacy and three grocery stores, all before 9:00AM. I was so blinded by my determination that I never considered purchasing another bottle of the floor cleaner which I later discovered had run low(inset the four letter word of your choice). There was no time to go back.

The princess went to visit a new dentist today. When it was time for her to be seen, she announced that she didn't need me and would being going in alone. I was surprised, but she does have some previous experiences dealing with health care professionals. The visit went well, she had a goody bag filled with stickers,a toothbrush and some little toys.

On to the hair cutter for a trim and some braids. Haircut went as well as can be expected. The princess doesn't really like to do this. When it was time for the braids, the woman stated making a large braid, the princess began to cry and said her ears were showing. She explained that her ears were private parts and mustn't be seen due to lack of earrings. This coming from a child who still removes most of her clothing upon entering the house. I stepped in and asked the stylist to make two smaller braids one on each side over her ears as had been done in the past. The princess never told the woman this, she just assumed the woman would know what she wanted. Lesson learned COMMUNICATE!

35 days until school starts

The princess is attending a program at the public library and I'm enjoying the quiet atmosphere and writing a bit until the battery runs out or the program is over, whichever happens first. We'll then be running off to pool school. Home for lunch, maybe get some work done the off to skating.

35 days and school starts. The princess will be attending 1st grade. The buzz on the play ground and the library is "which teacher will me child be with?" All seem good. Two have daughters that attend the same dance school as the princess and have seen her at her best and worst each Saturday morning for the past year. There are only three 1st grade teachers so unless there is a staffing change it's likely she'll be with one of them.

The program is over and we now have a 3ft tall gingerbread person to take home. The origami yesterday was easier to carry.

Whirlwind

The princess has been on a schedule with break neck pace. Friday and Saturday were spent preparing and participating in a dance program,Sunday was a skating exhibition. I'm exhausted...can't wait to see what the day brings.

While at the dance studio Saturday we met family members of Moo. Very exciting.
