Nearly late

Made it to school today by the skin on our teeth arriving just as the music teacher started playing the national anthem on the piano. I stopped, but the princess ran down the hall to get to class. Too bad that in her haste she left me holding her backpack and lunch box. a moment later, while the anthem was still being played she emerged from her classroom(with that embarrassed smile we've all had at some point) to retrieve her belongings. I was so proud, I wanted dive under the greeter's desk.

I asked her later if they stood silently during the anthem in class each morning. She replied "Yes, of course we do Mommy."

Halloween parade that almost wasn't

The local kids costume parade scheduled for Saturday was cancelled due to the forecast calling for inclement weather. Took the princess to the movies instead.

The fall fest continued on Sunday and many children were present both in and out of costume. All who wanted were treated to goodies provided by local merchants. The kids had a great time dancing, visiting the petting zoo and going on the rides. Tried some of the pulled pork.

The princess dressed as Tinkerbell. I expect many costume changes between now and Saturday, the big one. The captain will be escorting the princess on this years candy quest. Due to work conflicts he's never been able to go with her, wonder what he'll wear.

Pleasly

Pleasly is a term the princess is using, frequently. Don't know if it's an original or if it's from a classmate. We've been planning the costume and music for a skating show she's in later this year. She wants to skate to something Disney, what else? She's the princess. I need to find 1:30 minutes of something. And then there's the costume. what have I gotten myself into?

Don't forget to enter the Halloween haiku contest.

Invisible Dogs

Watching this video brought back fond memories of a family vaction where my sisters and I got invisible dogs and walked them through the airport ncluding customs before boarding our flight home, alas we had to check then at the gate but it was fun while it lasted.

The princess has been talking about an invisible dog since she read about one in a book recently. I'll have to look around for one of these for her. Wonder if I could bring one on a cruise ship?

And the winner is....

Sorry to keep everyone in suspense so long, but it was a difficult choice to make. All the entries were terrific. The winner of the $25 Chili's gift card by an overwhelming margin was the post comparing oneself on caffeine to Maleficent.

Thanks to everyone that participated. There will be another contest starting on Friday. Think Fall/Halloween.

Recommended Reading

"I see London, I see France, I see the first ladies under pants." No, the princess did not say this. It is the opening line of Craig Ferguson's autobiography "American On Purpose. The princess overheard me read the opening line to a friend at the library so now she's saying it.

About the book, it's a well written account of The Late Late Show hosts darkly irreverent journey from Glasgow to Hollywood. You'll have to read it yourself to find out exactly what Mrs Bush was wearing that evening.
